Unlike inkjet cartridges (which use liquid ink), toner is a fine powder composed of carbon particles, polymers, and pigments. During printing, a laser beam (or LED bar) draws the image onto a photosensitive drum, which attracts the toner powder and transfers it to the paper. A unit called the "fuser" heats the powder, permanently bonding it to the paper.
This technology, known as electrophotographic, is the standard for office efficiency, but it also powers professional label printers like the OKI Pro series. These specific models (the Pro1040 and Pro1050) use “Dry Toner” technology to produce digital labels on demand.
